How to prepare
- Carry your prescription, old films and previous reports.
- Tell us before the scan if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, metal implant, aneurysm clip or shrapnel.
- Remove all metal — jewellery, watch, hairpins, belt, coins, cards and phone. Lockers are provided.
- For MRCP and abdominal MRI, come after 4–6 hours of fasting.
- If you are claustrophobic or anxious, tell the technician — a relative may stay with you inside the room.
- Pregnant patients must inform the staff before entering the MRI room.

Questions patients ask
Is MRI painful?
No. The scan is completely painless. The machine is noisy, so you will be given earplugs or headphones.
Can I bring a relative inside?
Yes, one relative who has no metal implant may sit inside the room with you after screening.
Why do some scans need an injection?
A contrast injection makes tumours, infections and inflamed tissue stand out. Dr. Mate decides this after looking at the plain images.
